Hotel Description

The Grosvenor House has a heritage on the grandest scale. Originally the London residence of Richard, the first Earl of Grosvenor in 1732, this estate featured the first Grosvenor Gallery to house the Earls magnificent collection of paintings as well as hosting famous glittering parties attended by aristocratic and royal families. But it was in 1927 that work on today’s Grosvenor house begun , when Park Lane was still a small country lane at the edge of Hyde Park. With an outstanding design by the great British architect, Sir Edwin Lutyen, the hotel began to take shape. Innovations and luxuries well ahead of their time were incorporated and the new Grosvenor house became the first hotel in London to have ice cold drinking water in the bathrooms. It featured a gymnasium, squash courts, swimming pool (most unusual for the time), and also a grand ice skating rink housed in the Great Room, society’s favourite venue for eight decades. A painting of the Halloween Fancy Dress Carnival, attended by the Prince of Wales in 1930, still hangs proudly in the lobby today. Le Meridien Grosvenor House has been regarded as one of London's most exclusive addresses since 1927. Designed in an age when space was not a premium, this prestigious landmark houses two towers of luxurious accommodation for international business and leisure travelers. The 448 spacious bedrooms and suites many with breathtaking views over Hyde Park and Mayfair are outfitted to meet guest's modern needs yet still retain the splendor and elegance of London's Edwardian past. Baby sitting is available by arrangement with the Housekeeping department and a highly training concierge is on duty 24-hours a day to assist with all eventualities and inquiries. For a serious work out or a relaxing spa, head to Le Meridien Grosvenor House's Health Club. A Ј1 million investment has resulted in one of London's most glamorous Health Club's, the place to be, not just for getting into shape, but to socialize, unwind at the end of the day, and be pampered during a weekend break. The Club offers a flexible approach to health and fitness and includes: the longest swimming pool in a hotel on Park Lane at over 20 meters in length, two spa baths with hydrotherapy and jet massage, a fully equipped air-conditioned gymnasium with cardio theatre offering personal fitness programmes, saunas, complimentary to all guest. Le MÊridien Grosvenor House’s restaurants and banqueting suites are among the world’s best. Our leading restaurant La Terrazza was refurbished last year as a result of our Ј35milliom refurbishment programme. Head Chef Adriano Cavagnini nurtures the roots of the Mediterranean, blending each dish with a contemporary flare to tantalise the palates of his guests. Internationally recognised Chef Nico Landenis presides over this superb restaurant that offers award-winning cuisine in the most elegant and comfortable surroundings.
